A high-level delegation from the Egyptian Armed Forces, comprising 16 officers, arrived in Mogadishu on Sunday for an assessment mission ahead of the planned deployment of an Egyptian military contingent to join the African Union Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
The delegation, led by Lieutenant General Islam Radwan, was received at Aden Adde International Airport by senior officials from AUSSOM and the Somali National Army (SNA).
Following their arrival, the officers held talks with AUSSOM leadership, including the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) and Head of Mission, Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene. The meeting, held at AUSSOM Force Headquarters, featured a comprehensive briefing on the current security situation in Somalia.
As part of their visit, the delegation will tour key facilities in Mogadishu designated for the accommodation and logistical support of Egyptian troops, as well as potential areas of operation.
The arrival of the Egyptian team marks a significant step towards Cairo’s contribution to regional security efforts under AUSSOM, at a time when Somali forces continue to take greater responsibility for national security
