Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre Strengthens Ties with Serbia in Landmark Visit

Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, held what officials described as a “fruitful meeting” with his Serbian counterpart, Đuro Macut, during an official visit to Belgrade on Wednesday.

The talks, which took place at the presidential palace, focused on deepening bilateral cooperation in areas including trade, investment, security, education, and healthcare. The two nations formalized their commitment with the signing of a health cooperation agreement.

Prime Minister Barre highlighted Somalia’s untapped investment opportunities, particularly in the blue economy, agriculture, and livestock — sectors he said could provide Serbian investors with “promising avenues for growth.”

Barre extended an invitation to Serbia’s government and business community to visit Somalia, underscoring Mogadishu’s ambition to broaden its international partnerships and attract foreign capital to key industries.

The Somali leader also expressed gratitude for the warm reception extended by Prime Minister Macut and the Serbian government, affirming that diplomatic relations between Mogadishu and Belgrade will continue to strengthen.
