Somalia, Sudan agree to waive visas for diplomatic passport holders
Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia and Sudan have signed an agreement to waive visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports, in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and facilitating official engagement.
The agreement was concluded on April 2 during the second session of the joint political consultation committee between the two countries.
Officials said the deal is expected to streamline diplomatic travel and enhance cooperation between the governments.
Talks focus on cooperation
The meeting was co-chaired by Hamza Adan Hadow, Somalia’s permanent secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Muawiya Osman Khalid, Sudan’s assistant foreign minister.
Discussions focused on strengthening ties in key sectors, including politics, economic cooperation, education and institutional development.
Both sides also emphasised the importance of closer coordination on regional and international issues.
Strengthening regional ties
The visa waiver agreement reflects growing efforts by both Somalia and Sudan to deepen diplomatic engagement and reinforce longstanding relations.
Analysts say such agreements can play a role in improving regional cooperation by reducing administrative barriers and encouraging more frequent high-level exchanges.
The agreement marks a step towards closer diplomatic coordination, as both countries seek to expand cooperation and strengthen their presence in regional affairs.
