GOLOLEY, Middle Shabelle — The Somali National Army (SNA) has successfully conducted a landmine clearance operation in Gololey, a rural area under Balcad district in the Middle Shabelle region, in a move aimed at improving civilian safety and securing vital transport routes.
According to official sources, the operation focused on detecting and removing explosive devices planted along key roads by militant groups. These improvised explosive devices (IEDs) posed a significant threat to local residents, public transport, and security forces operating in the area.
The clearance mission was carried out by a specialized SNA unit trained in explosive ordnance disposal (EOD). The unit systematically scanned and neutralized multiple landmines that had been buried to disrupt movement and cause harm to civilians.
Military officials stated that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to stabilize regions recently affected by insurgent activity. By securing roads and removing hidden explosives, authorities aim to restore normal life and enable safer travel for communities in Middle Shabelle.
